About ToolSmith
ToolSmith is an independent troubleshooting site for the errors people actually see: the Excel formula that spills, the printer that says offline, the update that sits at 0%. We started it because most "fix it" articles are written to fill space between ads — ten vague steps, no explanation of which one matters, and no way to tell whether it worked.
How every guide is written
- Verified steps. Menu paths and button names are checked against the actual software or the vendor's official documentation (Microsoft Support, Google Help, Apple Support). If a step can't be verified, the article says so instead of guessing.
- Cause first. Fixes are ordered by how often each cause is the real one, so you usually stop by the second section.
- A finish line. Every guide ends with what success looks like and the official escalation path if it didn't work.
Independence
ToolSmith is not affiliated with Microsoft, Google, or Apple, and nothing here is sponsored. The site is funded by advertising and occasional affiliate links to tools we'd mention anyway — always disclosed, and they never change the steps. See the disclosure page.
Corrections
Software changes. If a step no longer matches what you see on screen, tell us — corrections ship fast and gratefully, and every article carries a "last verified" date so you can judge freshness yourself.
